What’s in the name? For you and I, a name is just a name, but for the child of God the name has eternal value and, in fact, the name we have now will be changed. John the apostle, on the Isle of Patmos and in “the Spirit on the Lord’s Day,” wrote that we would receive a “new name” (Rev. 2:17). Isn’t that exciting?
Notice who qualifies for that “new name.” “To him who overcomes!” What does that mean? It means that for those who have repented of their sins and prayed the prayer of forgiveness and for salvation, God has received them into His family through the person of Jesus Christ.
Most of the people in the world believe that you get to heaven by means of religion or doing some act of human kindness. The Word of God speaks differently. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes unto the Father except by Me” (John 14:6).
Good deeds are needed and religion, if it is based upon truth (not your version nor mine, but God’s) will lead you into an eternal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Will YOUR name be written down in glory? Only if you turn from yourself and your sins and turn to Jesus Christ in faith. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9).
Think about that.
